Fortune's Last Future
A downloadable game
[This is an entry for Just Play: A Game Jam for Climate Futures.]
The planet is dying. Will you leave it behind, or stay and fight for the last chance at a more fortunate future?

The promise of technology proves itself double-edged: “progress” and its endless excess has propelled the human race to new heights…and new lows.
Sea levels continue to rise, but so do profits. Extinction rates are exponential. Those who speak for the world are forced to slow this progress. An eruption of a long-dormant volcano, seasons of unbreathable air; waters rising over important urban centers of industry and trade. Another, larger, hole in the ozone layer.
6 years left, it had been decided - less than a decade before all human progress ceased, forever. With funding from the developed and emerging nations of the world, a savior of progress: Project Planetborn and the starcruiser Rapunzel, and a handful of planets deemed “very likely hospitable.”
But some must stay. Some were not lucky enough to be selected. Some fools fought to stay, and to fight against all reason to protect their dying home.
Our young hero among them…

This is the text-based narrative demo of “Fortune’s Last Future,” planned as a 3D turn-based mech battler using a grid system which tasks the player with collecting and responsibly managing renewable energy resources while recruiting allies and using gathered resources to fight those who would irresponsibly claim and use these resources as their own.
Play as Amad, piloting the solar-powered robot Sunbeam, rallying allies to hold off the “Corporate Mechs,” resource collection robots of the World Governments, who are determined to mine this dying planet dry and leave it behind for good.
